GINKGO LEAF TEA
Ginkgo Biloba
The tree from where the ginkgo leaf falls is considered a living fossil. Not only is it the only surviving member of its plant genus but this tree has been rooting into the earth for over 225 million years, there is little doubt that dinosaurs would have enjoyed these leaves just as much as people do today.
The resilient nature of this ancient tree, not to mention its elegant beauty, means it has adapted well to different climates and environmental changes. As such it has become a common sight as a road side tree in towns and city’s thanks to its tolerance for high levels of CO2.
The name Ginkgo derives from the Japanese name Gingkyo which is thought to come from the Chinese yin-hsing, which refers to the fleshy fruits and loosely translates as Silver Apricot. The plant has long been regarded as sacred to the ancient and modern culture of both China and Japan.
There are perhaps no examples of ginkgo growing in the wild today; perhaps a result of the small native region of the tree, Eastern China, being a very highly populated part of the world. However, Ginkgo Biloba is extensively cultivated throughout the world. NutriPunkt Ginkgo Leaf is sustainably harvested and organically grown. The leaves are picked in the early autumn as they start to turn from green to yellow, they are gently dried and ground to protect their unique value.
Like many herbs, Ginkgo leaves contain tannins and terpenes and should be used sparingly. This herb combines very well with Green tea to make an uplifting beverage.
